Kiwi-A-Salt Land Speed Record

Back in 1979, Bill Ward became the first kiwi to build and race on the Bonneville Salt Flats, following in the footsteps of our own Burt Munro.  Although Bill was fastest in his class, he never completed the runs necessary for that elusive Land Speed Record.  He and his team went back in ’82 and ’84 still the fastest, but still no record.

They went back to the Bonneville Speedweek in 2008 and set a Land Speed Record of 158.151 miles per hours (254.52 km) in a rear-engine, supercharged Flathead V8 powered 27 T Roadster.

Bill Ward and his team will show off their record-breaking roadster at Big Boys Toys, as he prepares to head back to the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2012.  Determined to break more records next year, Bill is bringing his mantra “Have Fun, Go Fast, Be Safe” and his roadster to Big Boys Toys before he heads back to Bonneville.
