ACTION ARENA
The finest extreme athletes in the land are coming together for Big Boys Toys 2012 to entertain and astound with backflips and 360s in the show’s Action Arena.
The “Action Arena” will host three days of extreme action and the country’s big names in Freestyle Motocross, BMX, stunt car driving and wakeboarding
BMX ‘Big Air’
New this year and another first at Big Boys Toys is the BMX Big Air feature featuring action-sports sensation Jed Mildon from Taupo. A Mega Ramp is being built to propel top BMX riders high into the air, allowing them to pull of amazing tricks and stunts.
Heading the BMX Big Air is NZ extreme-sports sensation – Jed Mildon. He created action-sports history May last year, when he landed the world’s first triple back flip on a BMX. The 25 year old from Taupo became an internet sensation when he made his history-making leap at Spa Park, Taupo. The jump has been viewed by over 9 million people on YouTube, and has seen Mildon hit the international action-sports stage.
Jed Mildon will be joined on the Mega Ramp by the finest BMX riders in the country, who are set to stun the crowd with their unbelievable tricks and flips.
Freestyle Motocross
The Action Arena will also host the death defying sport that is Freestyle Motocross, led by Palmerston North sensation Mitch McHardy and a team of four of the best FMX exponents in the country showing off the backflips and superman moves.
Headlining the show will be Mitch ‘Mad Dog’ McHardy. Brother of the world’s best FMX rider – Levi Sherwood, the 22 year old McHardy has been performing all over the world and was a recent X Games winner. . He will be competing at Big Boys Toys against the Gore duo of Stuart Ewing & Andrew Jackson and Dunedin’s Callum Shaw.
Drive Rush Stunt Driving Team
The Drive Rush team are the country’s foremost stunt driving, and current holders of the Guinness Book of Records for parallel parking.
They are set for three days of shows at Big Boys Toys where they will show off their precision driving stunts and driving manoeuvres that you didn’t think were possible. See Peter Bell and the Drive Rush team get a street car up on two wheels, jump from ramp to ramp, and show off the spins and slides that you see in the movies.
Wakeboarding
Developed from a combination of water-skiing, snowboarding & surfing, wakeboarding is now firmly established on the action-sports scene. The “Wake-boarding Area” at Big Boys Toys features two wakeboarding pools with a rail between them allowing the riders to show off their array of tricks.
Some of the country’s best wakeboarding exponents including kiwi # 1 Brad Smeele and expert rail rider Josh O’Connell will be at Big Boys Toys for the “Wakeboarding” competition.
Tank Boy Demonstrations
The Tankboy crew will be a feature of the Action Arena on the Saturday of Big Boys Toys. They perform large scale action entertainment shows featuring military vehicles and pyrotechnics.
BMX Demos
The Action Arena will also host another set of ramps to let many of the country’s top BMX exponents show off their repertoire of skills and tricks.
